At Independent Living of Tennessee, our mission is to build and remodel homes for the purpose of lifelong enjoyment.  We take care to provide first-class craftsmanship and professionalism with every project.


We are locally owned and operated by Tim Swafford and Caroline Decosimo.

Our team has years of construction and remodeling experience in the Chattanooga area.  We’ve even taken the extra steps to have four of our staff members earn the certification of CAPS Professionals.  CAPS stands for Certified Aging-In Place Specialist.  A CAPS Professional has been specially trained to evaluate and put into practice valuable modifications to long-term homes.  A CAPS Professional also has the expertise to provide recommendations for the project type and design that fits your specific needs.

Tim Swafford is a CAPS Professional, Certified Graduate Builder, Certified Graduate Remodeler, and Certified Green Professional. Tim has been honored by the National Association of Home Builders by being appointed to the National Board of Directors for the NAHB Green Remodeling Committee in Washington, DC.

In addition, staff members Jennifer Richards, Tommy Swafford and Dave Penney are all CAPS Professionals.
